NO COLORS

Besides running projects and presenting fictional presentations, I got the chance to explore my creativity through the assignment of creating a story podcast.

My team, me and 2 other friends, decided to rebel against conventional storytelling and created a story spoken word instead. The piece was about the unrequited love of a boy and a girl and their destiny to never be together. However, since this is a podcast, we added elements of an interview to recreate the feeling of a radio talk show.

For this project, I took the responsibility as male voice talent and junior sound editor.

Here is our full transcript of the poem -

[Both]

I found love

that time, in 10th grade

when I caught you in the sunlight

[Male]

You were so bright, I thought I might die

In the yellow sun ray, you just made my day.

[Female]

In the month of May, I was in a craze

Not that I cared, but did our eyes meet?

[Male]

Did I see the pink elephant,

Or you did blink at me.

My heart fluttered.

[Female]

I asked if you would walk me home.

You surprised me as you agreed.

I knew we lived on the opposite sides.

That got me red in the face.

[Male]

June settled, but where had you been?

I tried calling, but got yellow-bellied.

Picture of you, I kept in a heart-shaped frame.

Looking for you, I searched other parts of town.

[Female]

On the way home, I got tongue-tied.

So embarrassed, where could I hide?

But, I felt happy.

Were you giving me the greenlight?

[Male]

On the way round, I saw you again.

Hand in hand, with another man.

I was green with envy.

Was this a comedy or a tragedy? I couldn’t tell.

[Female]

You looking at her. I could tell.

The sight of your eyes, was the same as mine.

Lovestruck, and shocked to the spine.

I was Lady Daydream, or so it seemed.

You loved me not.

[Both]

Loving you, I felt the blue.

[Male]

There was this spark, then just the dark.

What was it in your eyes? If it was not love.

[Female]

For one moment I misunderstood.

For many days I suffered.

Through the rose-colored glasses,

Was the power out in the heart of mine?

[Both]

What was it in you?

That I misread.

[Male]

I waved the white flag, yet hopeful thoughts came back.

I nestled into pain.

[Female]

Each morning waking up, I felt like bleeding.

I licked my own wounds.

[Both]

In my eyes, you were a rainbow.

A prism of light.

[Male]

Loving you, I was filled with colors.

[Female]

Loving you, I was hit black and blue.

[Male]

Loving you, I remembered breaking my arms at uncle’s house that time.

Immobilized and numb for months.

[Female]

Loving you, I felt like being hit by lightning.

There was a bolt of electricity.

Even if it was one-sided.

[Both] Loving you, I also hated you.

[Male]

You voted for Donald Trump.

[Female]

You flunk Math so bad.

[Male]

You were the Chess Club President.

I mean, how lame was that?

[Female]

You judged my friend’s appearance.

How did you differ from the football jocks?

[Both]

And…

You didn’t reciprocate my feelings.

[Male]

Was it that hard of the three words?

“I love you.”

[Female (Male)]

I could imagine us cuddling (“I love you.”)

Going overnight for the first time (“I love you.”)

Having our first kiss. (“I love you.”)

Staying with me when everyone left. (“I love you.”)

But…

[Male]

“I don’t love you.”

[Female]

It hurts beyond imagination.

[Both]

In my eyes, you were the rainbow.

The prism of light.

[Male]

In your eyes,…

[Female]

Wait, in your eyes?

What was I to you?

[Male]

Did you remember my name?

[Female]

Guess that I was just a phantom,

passing through your life.

[Both]

I was your shadow.

You were my light.

[Male]

We coexisted.

[Both]

But never be together.

[Male]

Words of love.

Stuck, upon my lips.

No chance for a confession.

That, I buried deep.

[Female]

Pitch black,

Pale blue.

True, I was a shadow to you.

[Male]

Crossing

[Female]

Crossing

[Both]

Crossing…

Your path.

[Female]

And after that…

[Male]

What happened after that?

[Both]

We became…

Strangers in the dark.
